Overview

The Black Explosion is the University of Maryland’s first and only Black student newspaper. Established in 1970, the Black Explosion works to conduct reporting on Black student life at this university

This publication is sponsored by the University of Maryland Nyumburu Cultural Center. We maintain editorial independence regarding all coverage of the University of Maryland, Nyumburu Cultural Center and its subsidiary organizations.

As this university’s only Black-student publication, we hold ourselves to a high standard to ensure Black student life on this campus is covered in a timely and accurate manner.
